The Birth of Sigurn Mordax

As I ponder the crafting of my chapter master, I begin to imagine who he is.  Who is Sigurn Mordax? I know chapter masters are to be the greatest of the chapter, the image of its character and representing the flavor of the chapter as a whole.  But I find myself wondering what he would be like if I were to meet him.  Would he be a dark, brooding ancient who has spent century upon century surrounded by deaths of both his enemies and brothers? I believe yes and no.  He'd be dark, that much death could only leave one so.  But I like to think he would have faith in his cause, more so than any of his brothers.  He would be assured that what his brothers died for was sure to change the fate of the Imperium.  He would be a great tactician, knowing to keep his cool in the thickest of combat to ensure as many of his battle brothers survived to fight another day.  Death would become more a transition than an end, even if it was to return to the darkness of nothingness.  Brooding is not the proper term, but rather reflective. He would choose to learn from his mistakes rather than cling to their emotional outcome.  I imagine him as a huge figure, dwarfing his younger brothers.  The more I contemplate the issue of halberd or hammer, the more I lean towards hammer.  A hammer requires calculation and skill to be effective. The slightest miscalculation causing you to become vulnerable but yet strength is necessary to swipe such a formidable weapon. His storm shield will make him a towering fortress of might and skill. This is Sigurn Mordax, the image of a chapter long isolated in the Halo Stars.  Requiring might and tactics to survive the pounding storms of xeno invasions.  He must be a fortress of might for those who follow him, if he wasn't the Guardians of Silence would crumble under the might of the xenos storms.  Yet he must also be mentor and leader, showing the chapter the way through the darkness.

It is upon all this that I reflect and ponder, the creation of a character to me is just as important, if not more than creating a cool looking or powerful model.  I believe its in the creation that your model goes from cool to awesome, without character models are simply that, models.

Now that I'm off my soapbox, I really am enjoying the birth of my chapter and its heroes.  It has made my bond with the army so much greater than I originally thought it'd be when I first started the hobby.  It is in the creation that I've found the most depth and reward in the hobby, but hey it could just be me.
