I hate these sorts of things...

Now I absolutely hate these introductory kind of posts, mostly because I am terrible at them.  I sometimes feel as though I am signing up for a dating site or something.  But I suppose its better to get something posted than to sit here pining away, worrying about whether its a great first post or not.  So here it goes:

"I like long walks on the beach followed by a nice picnic with a good merlot." I suppose that would be true if it were followed by mass rampage and destruction caused by 7 foot tall, genetically engineered super humans in badass armor with futuristic weapons that make any man wish he had one.  I have just recently found the joy of the Warhammer 40,000 (40K) universe by Games Workshop much to my dear wife's dismay.  I love it, but what man wouldn't?  Armies of swarming aliens fought off by the brave soldiers of the Imperium of Man in a dystopic future filled with all the grime of real life, sounds like a man's dream yet the prices of models for this table top game are what my wife's nightmares are made of.  I am jumping in, ready to whoop some alien ass and hopefully you'll join me on the ride as i figure it all out.

Now on to the meat of the introduction, none of that garbage like, "Hello My Name is ____.  This is my hobby, please read my blog so I can bore you to death and attempt to capture your laughs with my polite humor."  No this is no place like that, I am a simple man.  A simple man who loves cool stuff.  Now my grammar is bad and my jokes aren't always funny but I promise I'll work on it (not really).  I do plan to use this blog to show other newcomers my experiences and hopefully we can all glean some good information from my mistakes as I am sure to make plenty.  If I find things that work, I'll be sure to do my best to make a tutorial or how to section.  Oh yeah, back to the meat... How does one stumble upon something so great as 40K?  For me, 40K found me through a free book I got from the ships library "False Gods" by Graham McNeill.  I could barely put the novel down it was so good, that being so I returned to the ships library and grabbed the other Horus Heresy book that was there, "Deliverance Lost" by Gav Thorpe.  This is when I was introduced to my beloved Primarch Corvus Corax which later led me to choose the Space Marine Legion "Raven Guard" as my army.  It wasn't until a couple months after finishing "Deliverance Lost" that I would rediscover 40K through a new friend.  Now for those who are or were in the military, you may recall long nights on watch with seemingly nothing to do but talk to those who are on watch with you.  This was one of those nights and I started talking to a guy who was on watch with me, don't ask me how 40K was brought up because I sure can't remember.  All I can say is you talk about a lot of random stuff late at night when you don't have the option of sleeping.  I'm not a good storyteller, if you couldn't tell by now, way too easily distracted.  Somehow we ended up discussing 40K and I discovered the characters I had so vividly imagined when I was reading those books were figures you could collect to create massive armies to go to battle with.  It was at that point I became hooked, I am sure my wife felt a great disturbance in the force that night as I was about to dive into a new hobby and not a cheap one at that.  We discussed fluff for hours and started planning out a campaign against the dreaded Dark Eldar (which a couple of other guys from work play).  Over the next couple weeks we talked fluff for our armies and he taught me the basics of how everything worked when it came to the gameplay.  I of course had started to plan my army and work its fluff.  Little did I know that within another couple weeks I would have close to a 100 models, prepping for a crusade.  There are stories in between there and now but those will all be added or talked about another time, I've got to get back to painting!

And so now my stupid intro is over, pretty terrible eh?
